Infiltrations in joints

If your pain symptoms are caused by osteoarthritis, infiltration into the joint may be a solution. An injection of corticosteroids is often tried first in the acute phase. The effect is 2 to 4 months. However, if these infiltrations are repeated, side effects such as additional wear and tear of the cartilage occur.

An alternative to this are infiltrations with Hyaluronic Acid, Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) and Autologous Protein Solution (nStride®, Zimmer Biomet). Hyualuronic acid is a glucosaminoglycan that binds to water, it is important for the hydration of tissues but also of joints. It protects cartilage, softens joints and serves as shock absorption. A single injection works on average between 8 and 12 months.

PRP is made from a small amount of blood taken from the patient. Concentrating and separating the platelets present creates a platelet-rich plasma, or PRP. Platelets contain growth factors that are essential for stimulating the healing process. On average, the effect is between 1 and 2 years.

An infiltration with Autologous Protein Solution (nStride®) is designed to relieve pain and restore balance to the inflamed joint by introducing high levels of "good" proteins from your own blood. These "good" proteins can block the "bad" proteins responsible for the inflammatory condition in your joint. At the same time, nStride APS also concentrates growth factors that are beneficial to the health of your cartilage.

Recent research shows that 85% of knee patients have 3 to 4 years of effect from 1 infiltration with nStride®.
